Overview

Alex Hormozi is an American entrepreneur and investor who founded Acquisition.com, a holding company that takes minority equity stakes in businesses generating $3-100 million in revenue.[5] He previously founded Gym Launch, which he scaled from startup to a $46.2 million exit in four years, and has built a portfolio generating over $250 million in annual revenue across 16+ companies.[3]

Hormozi graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 2012 with a degree in Human & Organizational Development, then worked in management consulting before leaving at age 23 to open his first gym.[6] After scaling United Fitness to six locations and experiencing near-bankruptcy, he founded Gym Launch in 2017, which became a licensing platform helping over 4,500 gyms worldwide before his exit in 2021.[3]

In 2024, Hormozi launched ACQ Ventures to focus on tech founders and entrepreneurs, and made what he called "the largest investment of my life" into Skool.com, a community platform that scaled from 3-5 million to over 15 million users under his involvement.[1][8] He and his wife Leila signed with Creative Artists Agency in 2024 to expand their media presence and speaking engagements.[2]

Early life and education

Hormozi was born in 1988 to first-generation Iranian-Jewish immigrant parents, with his father working as a doctor after fleeing Iran to build a better life in the United States.[6] He attended Vanderbilt University, where he served as vice-president of the powerlifting team and graduated magna cum laude in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Human & Organizational Development, concentrating in Corporate Strategy.[6]

After graduation, Hormozi worked in management consulting, focusing on space cyber intelligence for the U.S. military.[3] Despite the prestigious position, he described feeling deeply unfulfilled and experiencing what he called a personal crisis, leading to his decision to leave consulting at age 23 to pursue entrepreneurship.[6]

Career

United Fitness (2013–2017)

In 2013, Hormozi opened his first gym, United Fitness, in Huntington Beach, California, using $60,000 in personal savings.[3] He slept on the gym floor for nine months to cut costs while building the business from the ground up.[3] Within three years, he scaled United Fitness to six locations through reinvesting cash flow, though the rapid expansion led to near-bankruptcy at age 26 when the business became overleveraged with debt.[3]

This failure became the foundation for his later success, teaching him crucial lessons about sustainable growth and operational efficiency that would inform his systematic approach to business building.[3]

Gym Launch (2017–2021)

Hormozi founded Gym Launch in 2017 after identifying that gym owners needed marketing and sales expertise rather than more equipment.[3] The company started as a done-for-you service where Alex and his wife Leila traveled across the country performing gym turnarounds, bringing in 75-200 new members per gym they assisted.[3]

After transitioning to a licensing model, Gym Launch generated $2.3 million per month and $17 million in profit in its first year.[3] The company helped over 4,500 gyms worldwide and generated $120 million in cumulative sales before Hormozi sold a 66% stake to American Pacific Group for $46.2 million in 2021.[3] He also launched Prestige Labs, a supplement company that generated $20 million in revenue in its first year, which was sold alongside Gym Launch.[3]

Acquisition.com (2020–present)

Hormozi launched Acquisition.com in 2020 as a holding company that takes minority equity stakes in businesses doing $3-100 million in revenue.[5] The firm focuses on helping founder-owned companies scale through proven systems and operational expertise, with Hormozi transitioning from hands-on operator to strategic investor and mentor.[5]

By 2024, the portfolio was generating over $250 million in annual revenue across 16+ companies.[3] Hormozi describes the approach as creating a "Disney-style business model" that reinvests content revenue into real estate, ventures, and private equity.[3] In January 2024, the company launched ACQ Ventures to focus specifically on tech founders and entrepreneurs.[1]

Skool.com and Recent Ventures (2024–present)

In January 2024, Hormozi made what he called "the largest investment of my life" into Skool.com, a community platform for online education and business building.[8] His investment and involvement helped scale the platform from 3-5 million users to over 15 million users in less than a year, with host payouts growing 62% per month.[8]

Hormozi became co-founder and brought his systematic approach to community building and monetization, launching initiatives like Skool Games to help creators achieve $10,000+ monthly income through community building and course creation.[8] In November 2024, he and his wife Leila signed with Creative Artists Agency to expand their speaking engagements, podcasting opportunities, and brand partnerships.[2]

Media and content

Hormozi hosts "The Game with Alex Hormozi," a business podcast focused on entrepreneurship, scaling companies, and investment strategies.[10] He has built a significant content presence across platforms, with his YouTube channel reaching 4.13 million subscribers and generating over 960 million total views across 4,800+ videos.[9]

Hormozi has authored multiple business books focusing on customer acquisition, business scaling, and entrepreneurship, with his book launch for "$100M Money Models" generating 2.9 million copies sold on day one through a $4 million advertising campaign.[4][7] His content strategy has generated 3 billion impressions and 4.5 million new subscribers across platforms in a 12-month period.[10]
