Overview
Randy Goldberg is an American entrepreneur and Chief Brand Officer of Bombas, the mission-driven apparel company he co-founded in 2013 with David Heath.[8] The company has generated $1.3 billion in lifetime revenue and donated more than 150 million items to homeless shelters through its one-for-one giving model, making it the most successful brand in Shark Tank history.[5][12]
Goldberg graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in finance in 2000 and worked in creative roles at digital media companies before founding Bombas.[10] The company began as a mission to address homelessness after Goldberg and Heath learned that socks were the most requested item at homeless shelters.[5] Bombas has raised $279 million in funding and operates with over 3,500 giving partners across the United States.[11][12]
In 2024, Bombas opened its first physical retail stores in New York City after more than a decade as a direct-to-consumer brand.[3] The company has expanded beyond socks into underwear, t-shirts, and other comfort apparel while maintaining its charitable mission.[1]
Early life and education
Goldberg was raised in an entrepreneurial household in Baltimore, where his parents owned an eyeglass manufacturing business.[8] His father was involved in nightlife and racehorse ownership, while his mother worked as a special education teacher.[8] From an early age, Goldberg engaged in various entrepreneurial activities, including washing cars, shoveling snow, selling watches at flea markets, and working at a bagel shop.[8]
He graduated from Georgetown University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.[10] Georgetown later recognized Goldberg as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017 for his success with Bombas.[10]
Career
Early ventures and UrbanDaddy (2000–2013)
After graduating from Georgetown, Goldberg founded several ventures including Tennis Partners, a creative consultancy focused on branding and strategy, and Pop Up Flea, a curated pop-up market featuring new and vintage men's goods.[8] He later joined UrbanDaddy as Creative Director, where he led creative development for the digital media brand.[8]
At UrbanDaddy, Goldberg met David Heath, who would become his co-founder at Bombas.[7] The two held regular lunch meetings to discuss potential business ideas, though neither was actively seeking to start a company together.[12]
Founding Bombas (2013–present)
In 2013, Goldberg and Heath discovered that socks were the most requested item at homeless shelters, inspiring them to create a business that could address this need.[5] They founded Bombas with a one-for-one model: for every item purchased, the company donates an item to someone in need.[5] Goldberg serves as Chief Brand Officer, overseeing the company's marketing, brand strategy, and mission initiatives.[1]
The company appeared on Shark Tank in 2014, securing a $200,000 investment from Daymond John.[4] Goldberg later described the experience, saying he was nervous but confident in the decision.[4] Bombas has since become the most successful brand in Shark Tank history, generating $1.3 billion in lifetime revenue.[5]
Under Goldberg's brand leadership, Bombas has expanded from socks into underwear, t-shirts, and other comfort apparel while maintaining its charitable mission.[1] The company has donated more than 150 million items through partnerships with over 3,500 organizations.[12] In 2024, Bombas opened its first physical retail locations in New York City after operating as a direct-to-consumer brand for over a decade.[3]
