Overview

Jess Lynch is the Founding General Partner of FoundersEdge, a pre-seed venture capital fund that invests in AI-native software companies.[4] Before entering venture capital, Lynch co-founded and served as CEO of Wishroute, a text-message-based behavior change platform that was acquired by Suggestic, with intellectual property subsequently licensed to Guidely and Runzy.[4] She started her career at PwC in financial forensics, where she consulted on fraud investigations and valuations for Fortune 500 companies.[4]

Lynch holds both an MBA and an MS in Accounting from Babson College, where she graduated as valedictorian of each program.[4][3] She is a licensed CPA.[4] At FoundersEdge, she and co-founder Greg Raiz invest at the pre-seed stage, writing initial checks of approximately $200,000 and drawing on a network of more than 50 founder-operator limited partners.[4][13]

Early life and education

Lynch has described entrepreneurial impulses dating to childhood; her first business idea, conceived in third grade, was a plan to breed hamsters and sell them to classmates.[6] Her parents declined to fund the venture but bought her a single hamster, which she proved too frightened to handle — an experience she later cited as her first failed startup.[6]

Lynch earned an MS in Accounting from Babson College in 2013 and an MBA from Babson in 2018, graduating as valedictorian of both programs.[3][4] During her MBA, she participated in Babson's Summer Venture Program, where she developed the concept that became Wishroute.[3] She also obtained her CPA license and began her career at PwC.[4][13]

Career

PwC (2013–c. 2018)

Lynch began her career at PwC in the firm's financial forensics practice, where she consulted on fraud investigations for Fortune 500 companies and developed valuations in business disputes.[4][13] She later credited the forensic accounting background with providing a foundation for evaluating unit economics, financial modeling, and capital strategy as a founder and investor.[13]

Wishroute (c. 2018–2023)

Lynch co-founded Wishroute, a martech platform that used SMS-based coaching to help health and wellness subscription companies improve user adoption and engagement.[4][3] The service paired users with real people who checked in daily, sent encouragement, and mailed surprise gifts when users met their goals — an approach Lynch described as "tech-enabled but human-powered."[3]

I literally was googling when to give up. How do you know as a founder you should quit?Forward Obsessed Podcast · 2024

Wishroute moved out of beta in January 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the fitness industry the company had been targeting.[3][6] Lynch pivoted repeatedly — hosting virtual health challenges, partnering with individual health coaches, and providing mental health support for frontline nurses — before transforming the model into white-label partnerships integrated directly into health and wellness apps.[6] During the lowest point, she and her husband used personal savings to cover payroll.[6]

Wishroute was acquired by Suggestic, and its intellectual property was licensed to Guidely and Runzy.[4]

FoundersEdge (c. 2023–present)

Lynch co-founded FoundersEdge — originally called Raiz Capital — with Greg Raiz, a former managing director of Techstars Boston and founder of Raizlabs.[13][4] The firm is a pre-seed fund that invests in AI-native software companies, with initial checks of approximately $200,000.[4][15] FoundersEdge is a member of the Coolwater Capital cohort of emerging venture capital managers.[13]

The fund's limited partners include more than 50 founder-operators — founders, CEOs, and builders who actively make introductions and collaborate with portfolio companies.[4] Lynch and Raiz report a 5× TVPI track record across their investments.[13]

Lynch and Raiz developed the "Founder Index," a proprietary assessment of 60 standardized questions designed to evaluate founder aptitude and reduce bias in investment decisions.[13] The model scores founders on a scale of −1 to 10, calibrated against historical data on high-performing founders, and is used to prioritize cold-pipeline deal flow.[13]

In 2024, Lynch launched UpLevel, a curated lunch series for women founders and investors that has since expanded into an annual summit.[8][5]

Recognition and public engagement

Lynch graduated as valedictorian of both her MS in Accounting class (2013) and her MBA class (2018) at Babson College.[4][3]

In April 2025, she conducted a fireside chat with TransPerfect founder Liz Elting at Trinity College, co-hosted by the college's Career and Life Design Center and Entrepreneurship Center.[1] She has spoken publicly on fundraising, exits, pivots, M&A, and customer discovery.[8]

Public statements

I think it comes down to a conversation about fear. I always say life begins at the end of your comfort zone. A superpower of mine, and what I help other people adopt as well, is getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.

The only thing you know is that you don't know. I worried a lot about things that never happened. Live with a little more levity.

On advice to her younger self — Radio Worcester / Auxilium Podcast, 2025[5]

I got my start at PwC working in financial forensics as a CPA where I consulted on fraud investigations and valuations in business disputes. The foundation in finance was really helpful in raising capital and strategizing when I started my own company.
