Overview

Guy Pistone is an American technology executive and serial entrepreneur serving as CEO and co-founder of Valere, an AI transformation and software development firm headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts.[5] Under his leadership, the bootstrapped company has grown to more than 225 employees across offices in five countries and was ranked number 73 on the Financial Times' 2026 Americas' Fastest-Growing Companies list.[10]

Before founding Valere in 2019, Pistone built and exited two consumer applications — Fitivity, a sports training platform that reached 15 million organic users before its acquisition by Loyal Foundry Inc. in 2022, and Elete, a sports-related app also acquired in 2022.[3][5] A former semi-professional basketball player and Clark University MBA graduate, Pistone has combined operator experience with an expanding portfolio of advisory, board, and angel investment roles across the technology sector.[5]

Early life and education

Pistone grew up in the Greater Boston area and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in Sudbury, Massachusetts, in 2006.[7] He subsequently attended Wilbraham and Monson Academy, a private preparatory school in Massachusetts, for a postgraduate year before enrolling at Ithaca College in upstate New York, where he studied from approximately 2007 to 2009 without completing a degree.[7]

Pistone transferred to Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Culture and Communications in 2012 and a Master of Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Information Systems in 2015.[5] Clark University has described Pistone as a notable alumnus whose career spans applications recognized by Apple, Upwork, and The New York Times.[5] During his MBA studies, Pistone began experimenting with machine learning and concurrently played semi-professional basketball, experiences that directly informed his first technology ventures.[5]

Career

Commonwealth of Massachusetts – Essex County District Attorney's Office

Early in his career, Pistone worked as an assistant in the Essex County District Attorney's Office in Massachusetts.[7] The exact dates of this role are not publicly documented, but it preceded his transition into technology and entrepreneurship.

Eastern Basketball Alliance (2013–2014)

Pistone played semi-professional basketball as a point guard in the Eastern Basketball Alliance, competing for the Metrowest Ballas during the 2014 season.[5] He played across the eastern United States while simultaneously pursuing his MBA at Clark University. The experience of balancing competitive athletics with academic and early entrepreneurial work shaped his approach to time management and iterative problem-solving, themes he has referenced in later writing.[7]

Fitivity Inc. (2014–2022)

Pistone founded Fitivity in 2014 as a sports training application platform. Drawing on machine learning techniques he had begun studying during his MBA, he used algorithmic approaches to reverse-engineer App Store ranking signals, growing the app to 15 million organic downloads without paid marketing spend.[3] At its peak, Fitivity was generating between 5,000 and 12,000 downloads per day.[5] The app was featured by both Apple and Google and received coverage in The New York Times.[5]

Fitivity raised approximately $710,000 in seed funding from LaunchCapital and RiverPark Ventures.[10] In August 2022, the company was acquired by Loyal Foundry Inc.[3] Pistone has cited the experience of building Fitivity — including an earlier failed pickup basketball app — as foundational to his later work, noting that the process taught him to "get one thing done every single day that moves the business forward, and stay in the game long enough to earn your sample size."[7]

Paerpay (2017–present)

Beginning in December 2017, Pistone served as an advisor to the CEO of Paerpay, a payments technology company.[7] The scope and duration of the advisory engagement beyond its start date are not publicly detailed.

MuckerLab Portfolio Company (2017–2018)

In 2017, Pistone served as CEO of an undisclosed portfolio company within MuckerLab, a Los Angeles-based accelerator and venture fund.[7] The engagement lasted approximately one year. The specific company name has not been publicly disclosed. This role overlapped with his continued leadership of Fitivity.

Elete (2019–2022)

Pistone founded Elete in 2019, a sports-related consumer application that operated concurrently with Fitivity.[7] Like Fitivity, Elete was acquired in approximately April 2022, though the acquirer has not been publicly named.[10] The dual exits in 2022 allowed Pistone to focus full-time on Valere, which he had co-founded in late 2019.

Valere (2019–present)

Pistone co-founded Valere in December 2019 with Anmol Upadhyay, a developer based in India whom he connected with through a cold LinkedIn message.[5] The company began as a side project while both founders maintained other ventures; Pistone has said that "when we started Valere, we actually had nothing to lose."[5] The two co-founders did not meet in person until 2022, when Pistone traveled to India, by which point the company had already scaled significantly.[5]

Valere provides custom AI transformation and software development services to mid-market and Fortune 500 enterprises across healthcare, finance, sports, fitness, and education verticals.[5] The company has built more than 300 applications and counts Johns Hopkins University and iHeart Media among its clients.[3][5] Valere holds AWS Advanced Tier Partner status and has been recognized as a top 1% agency on Upwork.[3]

The company has grown to more than 225 employees with offices in the United States, Peru, India, Croatia, and Uruguay, all without external funding.[5][10] According to Latka, Valere's estimated annual recurring revenue reached approximately $18 million by 2025.[9] In 2026, the Financial Times and Statista ranked Valere number 73 on their Americas' Fastest-Growing Companies list, based on independently verified compound annual revenue growth from 2021 through 2024; the company reported that all growth was organic with no acquisitions.[10]
