Overview
Graham Weaver is an American private equity investor and Stanford lecturer who founded Alpine Investors in 2001.[2] He has built the firm into a $18.8 billion people-driven private equity platform known for its PeopleFirst philosophy and CEO-in-Training program.[7] Alpine has completed over 850 investments across 70+ portfolio companies, focusing on software and services businesses with approximately $20 million in revenue.[6][4]
Weaver has taught strategic management at Stanford Graduate School of Business since 2002, receiving the MBA Distinguished Teaching Award in 2024.[1] Alpine Investors was ranked number one in the HEC-DowJones Upper MidMarket Buyout Performance Ranking in 2025.[7] The firm targets middle-market companies whose baby boomer owners seek succession planning, developing talent through what Weaver describes as a belief that "the greatest alpha is created through talent."[4]
Early life and education
Weaver grew up in Perrysburg, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo, as the middle child of three siblings.[8] His father was a veterinarian who built his own practice, and his mother worked in fundraising for the University of Toledo.[3] His parents divorced when he was 13.[3]
He attended Princeton University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1994.[1] At Princeton, he served as captain of the national championship lightweight crew team and was nicknamed "Dream Weaver" by his teammates.[3] After working in private equity for several years, he earned an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1999.[1]
Career
Early private equity career (1994–2001)
Weaver began his career as an analyst at Morgan Stanley Capital Partners in 1994, working in the firm's private equity group for two years.[2] He then joined American Securities Capital Partners as an associate from 1996 to 1997 before attending Stanford for his MBA.[2]
After graduating from Stanford in 1999, Weaver worked as a vice president at Oak Hill Capital Management, the private equity arm of Robert Bass's organization, until 2001.[2] This experience across multiple private equity platforms informed his later approach to building Alpine Investors.[4]
Alpine Investors (2001–present)
Weaver founded Alpine Investors in 2001 with a focus on what he terms a "people-driven" approach to private equity.[2] The firm developed its signature PeopleFirst philosophy and CEO-in-Training program, which identifies and develops talent within portfolio companies.[4] Alpine typically recruits CEO-in-Training candidates who average 28 years old and develops them through a structured program.[4]
Under Weaver's leadership, Alpine has raised nine flagship funds and grown to manage $18.8 billion in assets.[7] The firm has completed over 850 investments across more than 70 portfolio companies, focusing primarily on software and services businesses.[6][7] Alpine targets companies with approximately $20 million in annual revenue, often working with business owners seeking succession planning.[4]
Stanford teaching (2002–present)
Since 2002, Weaver has served as a lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Business, teaching strategic management courses.[1] He received the MBA Distinguished Teaching Award in 2024, recognizing his excellence in teaching.[1] His academic work focuses on the intersection of talent development and business strategy, themes that align with Alpine's investment philosophy.[5]
Recognition and public engagement
Weaver received the MBA Distinguished Teaching Award from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2024.[1] Alpine Investors was ranked number one in the HEC-DowJones Upper MidMarket Buyout Performance Ranking in 2025.[7]
He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and has delivered keynote addresses at events including the Booth/Kellogg ETA Conference.[5] Weaver is represented by CWG Speakers as a high-performance speaker focusing on leadership and talent development.[10]

Personal
Weaver resides in Corte Madera, California, with his wife Cindy and their three children.[8] He has been married for over 20 years.[3] During high school, he listened to self-help tapes while mowing lawns, an early indication of his interest in personal development that later influenced Alpine's people-focused approach.[3]
