Overview

Dana Lampert is an American technology founder and the Founder and CEO of TrueSignal, a Boston-based company that provides verified business performance data to AI recommendation systems.[8][3] Described by his investor FoundersEdge Venture Capital as a "3x Founder," Lampert has founded or co-founded three companies across education technology, specialty insurance, and AI data infrastructure.[8]

Lampert founded his first company, Wiggio, as a student at Cornell University in 2008; the student collaboration platform grew to over one million users before being acquired by D2L (Desire2Learn) in 2013.[3] He subsequently co-founded SpottedRisk, a specialty insurance technology company that raised approximately $10 million and was acquired by CAC Group in 2024.[12][13] He launched TrueSignal in 2025 and closed a seed round from FoundersEdge in February 2026.[8]

Early life and education

Lampert attended Cornell University, graduating in 2008.[6][10] During his time at Cornell, he completed an internship on Wall Street, where he observed enterprise-grade collaboration tools available to large corporations but inaccessible to students — an experience he later cited as the direct inspiration for Wiggio.[8] He participated in an entrepreneurship course at Cornell's Johnson School of Management in the fall of 2007, where he and classmate Lance Polivy pitched the concept for Wiggio to a panel of venture capitalists and professors.[6]

Wiggio was among the first three companies accepted into Cornell's eLab accelerator when it opened in April 2008, providing Lampert with access to alumni mentors, office space, legal and accounting support, and connections to the Plug and Play Tech Center in Silicon Valley.[10]

Career

Bain & Company

Early in his career, Lampert worked as an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company, the global management consulting firm.[13] The precise dates of this role are not confirmed in public sources; it appears to have been a brief engagement around the time of his Cornell graduation, before he committed to Wiggio full-time. According to a profile on Cal Newport's blog, Lampert had a deferred consulting offer when he chose to pursue Wiggio instead.[13]

Wiggio (2008–2013)

In the fall of 2007, Lampert and co-founder Lance Polivy conceived Wiggio — a free, web-based group collaboration platform — during an entrepreneurship class at Cornell.[6] Lampert's father connected the pair with Bob Doyle, a technology entrepreneur and inventor, who became their first major investor and contributed his two sons, Rob and Derek Doyle, as programmers.[8] Development began in January 2008, a prototype launched in April, and within weeks 1,200 Cornell students had signed up.[6] The team raised a $450,000–$500,000 angel round in August 2008 and operated out of a building owned by Doyle in Cambridge, Massachusetts.[8]

Wiggio exited beta in February 2009 with approximately 45,000 users, 80 percent of whom were college students and faculty.[8] The platform reached one million users by April 2012[10] and had grown to more than 1.5 million students at over 2,000 colleges and universities worldwide by mid-2013.[11] In total, Wiggio raised approximately $2.55 million from New Atlantic Ventures, Bob Doyle, and angel investors.[3] In March 2013, D2L (Desire2Learn) — which had recently raised $80 million — acquired Wiggio for an undisclosed sum, its second acquisition in two months.[3][12] All six Wiggio employees received employment offers from D2L.[13] Progress Partners served as financial advisor to Wiggio on the transaction.[14]

It's not glamorous. I was up the other night until 4 AM trying to record a video, and the audio kept failing. That's not glamorous. There's a lot of responsibility. More than a regular job. You have to push yourself.Cal Newport's Study Hacks Blog

D2L / Desire2Learn (2013–2015)

Following the acquisition, Lampert joined D2L initially as Director of Engineering and was subsequently promoted to Senior Vice President of Product Development and Strategy.[3][15] In this role, he oversaw the integration of Wiggio's collaboration features into D2L's learning management platform, which was announced in July 2013.[15][11] Lampert departed D2L around 2015.[8]

PeopleView (2013–2016)

Beginning around 2013, Lampert co-founded PeopleView, a company in the HR and people analytics space, where he served as a director.[8] No confirmed funding rounds, product details, or exit events for PeopleView appear in public sources.[8]

K Health — Advisory Role (2017–2019)

From approximately 2017 to 2019, Lampert served as an advisor to the Chief Product Officer at K Health, a digital health company that uses AI and clinical data to provide primary care services.[8]

SpottedRisk (2016–2024)

In 2016, Lampert co-founded SpottedRisk.[16] The company operated as a specialty insurance managing general agent (MGA) focused on disgrace insurance and entertainment risk, underwriting policies that protected brands, studios, and event organizers against losses caused by the misconduct of associated public figures.[16][13] Lampert served as COO and CPO. SpottedRisk raised approximately $10 million across three rounds: a $4.75 million seed round in November 2016, a $4 million Series A in March 2018, and a subsequent Series B in 2020.[13]

The company maintained a proprietary database of over 26,000 public figures to assess disgrace risk.[13] In August 2020, SpottedRisk acquired Media Guarantors, a completion bond agency serving the entertainment industry.[17][13] In September 2024, SpottedRisk was acquired by CAC Group (CAC Specialty).[12]

TrueSignal (2025–present)

Following the SpottedRisk acquisition, Lampert founded TrueSignal in 2025.[8] The company builds verified data infrastructure for AI-powered business discovery. Its core product, the TrustRecord, connects to a service business's operational systems — including accounting and field service software — to verify and publish structured performance data that AI recommendation platforms can read.[3][18] TrueSignal targets service businesses in categories such as HVAC, plumbing, dental, and legal, where consumers increasingly use AI tools to find providers.[19]

TrueSignal closed a seed round from FoundersEdge Venture Capital in February 2026.[8][3] As of mid-2026, the company had approximately two to three employees and was headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.[3]

Public statements

"Wiggio was initially created to address my own collaboration needs as a student and the technology is now used by more than a million students, validating the need for this type of solution."

Personal life

Lampert is based in Boston, Massachusetts, where he has been headquartered across multiple ventures since at least 2008.[13] In the early days of Wiggio, he and co-founder Lance Polivy worked out of a building in Cambridge owned by investor Bob Doyle, commuting from their parents' homes and subsisting on savings until funding arrived.[13]
