Overview

Adam Weisman is an American entrepreneur and healthcare technology executive serving as co-founder and CEO of Auxilius, a New York–based software company that provides clinical trial financial management tools to biopharmaceutical companies.[1][2] Founded in 2020, Auxilius has raised $20 million in venture funding and serves more than 50 biopharma clients.[5]

Before founding Auxilius, Weisman spent over a decade in healthcare data, economic consulting, and venture operations. He held roles at Analysis Group, Redstar Ventures, and IndUS Growth Partners before rising to Senior Vice President at Decision Resources Group, a life sciences data and analytics firm acquired by Clarivate Analytics for approximately $965 million in 2020.[10][5] He holds a B.A. in Economics from Middlebury College.[5]

Early life and education

Adam Weisman graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.[5][13] He is based in New York, NY.[1]

Career

Analysis Group (2008–2012)

After graduating from Middlebury, Weisman joined Analysis Group, an economic consulting firm, as a Senior Analyst.[5][13] During his four years at the firm, he developed quantitative and financial modeling skills that would inform his later work in healthcare data and technology.[7]

Redstar Ventures (2012–2015)

In October 2012, Weisman joined Redstar Ventures as Director of Venture Development, a role he held through September 2015.[13][7] At Redstar, he worked on early-stage product and data businesses, gaining operational experience in venture building and development.[5]

IndUS Growth Partners (2015–2019)

Weisman joined IndUS Growth Partners in September 2015 as Vice President of M&A and Portfolio Operations, a role focused on healthcare technology investing and portfolio company support.[13][7] He held this position through 2019, with the role overlapping with his concurrent tenure at Decision Resources Group.[5] According to some sources, Weisman has maintained an advisory relationship with IndUS Growth Partners alongside his work at Auxilius.[7]

Decision Resources Group (2016–2020)

Beginning in approximately September 2016, Weisman served as Senior Vice President at Decision Resources Group (DRG), a life sciences data and analytics firm.[5][13] DRG provided market intelligence, analytics, and consulting services to pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. In March 2020, Clarivate Analytics completed its acquisition of DRG for approximately $965 million.[10][8] Weisman's experience at DRG — where he observed firsthand how biopharma companies managed clinical trial finances — directly informed the founding of Auxilius.[2] His Auxilius co-founder, Erin Warner Guill, was also a colleague from DRG.[5]

Auxilius (2020–present)

In March 2020, Weisman co-founded Auxilius with Erin Warner Guill to build a purpose-built financial management platform for clinical trials.[2][13] The company was conceived after what Weisman described as "hundreds of conversations with experienced Chief Science Officers and CFOs who learned the hard way that clinical R&D is about more than science" and that the financial management of trials — budgets, forecasts, accruals, and vendor payments — was still being handled largely through spreadsheets.[2] Auxilius automates clinical trial budgets, forecasts, accruals, and site payment reconciliation, replacing manual spreadsheet workflows with a unified system of record.[10]

The company raised a $10 million Series A round in June 2022 led by Renegade Partners, with participation from angel investors including Andy Palmer (Koa Labs), Chase Gilbert (Built Technologies), and Sam Whitaker (Greenphire).[2][5] At the time of the raise, Auxilius was managing nearly $100 million in trial spending across 45 distinct vendors and 15 preclinical-through-Phase 3 programs.[2] In March 2024, Auxilius raised an additional $10 million led by SignalFire, bringing total funding to $20 million.[5][10][11] The company reported 800% year-over-year revenue growth in 2023 and had expanded to more than 50 biopharma clients by the time of the second raise.[5]

It's tempting to believe that clinical R&D is inherently unpredictable and, given what's at stake, that costs don't matter. The reality is that costs do matter and play an essential role in determining whether a therapy is ultimately successful.TechCrunch · 2022

Auxilius was named to the CB Insights Digital Health 50 list, which recognizes private digital health companies globally.[10] The company has also achieved SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications and joined the Veeva Product Partner Program to integrate clinical trial data with financial data for joint customers.[10]

Public statements

"Every other industry has developed increasingly sophisticated methods of predicting, managing, and pricing risk. I truly believe that if you want to manage prescription drug costs, you have to start at the beginning."

"As a small company and wearing many hats, as I'm sure many founders find, it is challenging to focus on fundraising while also driving momentum in the business. I think we managed it well by being disciplined about The Most Important Thing in any given week."
